Geosynchronous satellite data were employed for a climatological study of two summers' data and for a specific case study to observe convective interactions between the eastern slopes of the Colorado Rocky Mountains and the plains of eastern Colorado and western Kansas.

The purpose of the installation is to test and demonstrate surge technology to local farmers. It has been proven elsewhere that the surge irrigation technology enables irrigators to achieve higher irrigation efficiencies, uniform applications, and deep percolation reduction. Reducing deep percolation decreases salt loading of the Colorado River.

Digital imagery from the SMS 2 geostationary satellite was recorded for analysis in support of the Sierra Cooperative Pilot Project.
